The Border Patrol Station at Bottineau was first established in 1934. By 1941 the Bottineau Station reached a duty force of four agents. The Bottineau area of operations covers the central portions of both North and South Dakota. This large geographic assignment covers approximately 27,000 square miles and it is not uncommon for agents of the Bottineau Station to travel long distances to complete an alien interview.

The Bottineau Station covers about 119 miles of land border.
