CBP officers at the Hidalgo Port of Entry apprehend one man wanted on warrant for sex crime against children, another with an arrest in a 2010 homicide case

HIDALGO, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge recently apprehended two individuals wanted for serious crimes; one wanted on an outstanding warrant for a sex crimes against children in San Antonio, the other with a prior arrest for a 2010 homicide in the Dominican Republic.

“CBP officers screen all travelers entering the United States, and that screening resulted in two significant apprehensions,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez from the Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “These arrests reinforce and illustrate our officers’ commitment to keeping our communities safe.” 

On March 22, at the Hidalgo International Bridge. A CBP officer processing travelers referred a 38-year-old Haitian national man for a secondary inspection. After escorting the traveler to secondary, biometric verification confirmed the man had a prior arrest regarding a 2010 homicide in Dominican Republic. As a result, he was detained and placed under removal proceedings.

On March 24, at the Anzalduas International Bridge. A CBP officer processing travelers referred Jose Ramon Hinojosa Garza, a 40-year-old male U.S. citizen, for a secondary inspection. After escorting the traveler to secondary, biometric verification confirmed his identity along with an active arrest warrant from Bexar County Sheriff’s Department. Hinojosa faces charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony in the state of Texas.

CBP officers confirmed the warrant to be active. An officer from Mission Police Department took custody of Hinojosa Garza and transported him to the county jail pending extradition to Bexar County. 

Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
