Statement by Press Secretary Jenny Burke on Commissioner Kerlikowske's Trip to Brazil

Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske will travel to Recife, Brazil to participate in the World Customs Organization 72nd Session of the Policy Commission as the Head of Delegation for the United States. The Policy Commission was established to act as a steering group to the WCO Council.

Commissioner Kerlikowske will also participate in several bilateral meetings with his counterparts to advance strategic CBP trade initiatives. From capacity building to increased targeting cooperation and agreements, these discussions set the stage for CBP’s continued international engagement.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
