WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske will travel to Tampa, Fla. today to speak to students at the University of South Florida, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice as part of a recruitment event. Commissioner Kerlikowske will also meet with CBP Explorers in Tampa, a student program for young men and women interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. In addition, Commissioner Kerlikowske will provide remarks on February 19 at the Third Annual Tampa Bay Safety and Risk Mitigation Summit discussing CBP’s dual missions of border security and trade facilitation, and balancing national and economic security.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
