Statement from CBP Commissioner Kerlikowske on the Death of Agent Jose D. Barraza

I am deeply saddened by the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Jose D. Barraza. Earlier this morning, Agent Barraza, a canine handler, was involved in a vehicle accident with his canine, Vino. Agent Barraza was assigned to the Sierra Blanca Station of the Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector. Our thoughts and prayers are with Agent Barraza’s family during this difficult time.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
