Release Date:
June 28, 2013

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y.—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced today the arrest of a Canadian citizen for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the United States.

On June 27, CBP officers encountered Maxime Aubuchone, a 21-year-old Canadian citizen from Pierrefonds, Quebec, as an applicant for admission into the United States at the Port of Champlain. Aubuchone claimed to be destined to Philadelphia to visit her family and upon inspection CBP officers detected an odor of marijuana.

During the course of the inspection, CBP officers searched Aubuchone's vehicle and discovered two black garbage bags in the spare tire well. Upon further examination the bags contained several cleaning and disinfecting containers filled with a green leafy substance. All together 4.4 pounds of the substance was discovered that later field-tested positive for marijuana.

Aubuchone was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and turned over to the Clinton County Sheriff's Department for prosecution.
