U.S. Customs and Border Protection to Hold Citizens Academy in Detroit

Detroit- On April 12, 2012, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the Port of Detroit will host its inaugural, eight week Citizens Academy for invited community leaders, introducing them to the CBP mission.

Citizens Academy attendees will learn about the Office of Field Operations (at the ports of entry) and their crucial mission of securing our nation's borders. The academy will cover CBP history, customs and immigration laws, and use of force disciplines, providing participants with first-hand experience of the tools used by CBP officers every day.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
