U.S. Border Patrol Agents Prevent Narcotics Smuggling Attempt and Recover Stolen Vehicle in Zapata, Texas

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Zapata Station prevented a marijuana smuggling attempt and recovered a stolen vehicle in Zapata, Texas.

The incident occurred on September 10, when agents patrolling near Falcon Lake in Zapata, Texas observed several boats making landfall. Agents also witnessed several subjects loading bundles onto a pickup truck.

As agents responded to the area, the pickup truck fled at a high rate of speed.  Moments later, agents found the pickup truck, which had collided with the carport of a residence.  The driver absconded the scene.

Agents discovered and seized 60 bundles of marijuana inside the pickup truck.  The marijuana weighed approximately 310.2 kilograms (683.8 pounds) with a value of over $546,608.  The vehicle was reported stolen out of Zapata, Texas and was turned over to the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office.

The marijuana will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
