TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales seized more than 3 pounds of heroin Thursday morning, worth approximately $55,000, from a 23-year-old Tucson woman.
The woman was attempting to enter the U.S. at the Dennis DeConcini pedestrian crossing when CBP officers referred her for a secondary inspection. During the encounter, a CBP narcotics-detection canine’s alert led officers to discover packages of heroin beneath the woman’s clothing.
Officers arrested the woman for narcotics smuggling and seized the drugs. The woman was later turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
