Sweetgrass Border Re-opened to Traffic

Release Date
Fri, 09/07/2012

The Sweetgrass port of entry has resumed its normal operations, effective 6:00 p.m., MT. The Sweetgrass border was closed earlier this afternoon due to a security incident in Canada.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) takes all security incidents very seriously. We have emergency response plans in place to deal with these types of incidents, and these plans were immediately activated.

The safety and security of the traveling public and our employees is our number one priority. As such, CBP took precautionary action to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public, community, and CBP personnel.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
