Robert Garcia Selected as Chief Patrol Agent for U.S. Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector

SWANTON, Vt. – U.S. Border Patrol Chief Carla L. Provost has appointed Robert Garcia as the new Chief Patrol Agent (CPA) for the Swanton Sector following the retirement of former Chief John C. Pfeifer. A twenty-six year veteran of U.S. Border Patrol, Robert Garcia takes the helm for Swanton Sector after most recently serving as the Deputy Chief Patrol Agent.

“It is a privilege to serve as the Chief of Swanton Sector and to work alongside the dedicated and hardworking men and women who protect the nation and keep it safe,” said Chief Robert Garcia. “I have called Swanton Sector home for more than three years and am honored to continue working with the multiple outstanding area law enforcement partners to keep our community safe.”

During his career with U.S. Border Patrol, Chief Garcia held a variety of positions including as a member of the elite Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent in the Tucson Sector and as an instructor at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Charleston, South Carolina.

Chief Garcia is also an experienced leader having served as the Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge of the Ysleta Station and the Patrol Agent in Charge of the Fabens Station in the El Paso Sector.  He also served as an Assistant Chief Patrol Agent, El Paso Sector, serving as the Operations Director for the New Mexico/West Texas Alliance to Combat Transnational Threats. Chief Garcia served two separate tours as an Assistant Chief and Associate Chief at U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, DC.  

Chief Garcia holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso.  He successfully completed the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies Red Team Leaders Course and is a graduate of the Customs and Border Protection Leadership Institute.

The Swanton Sector is responsible for securing the land border between ports of entry in Vermont, New Hampshire, and northeastern New York.
