Rio Grande Valley Sector Agents Net 1,400 Pounds of Marijuana

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents confiscated almost 1,400 pounds of marijuana early Wednesday morning in two seizures.

In the larger of the two, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station observed multiple smugglers carrying bundles of marijuana. The smugglers were seen stashing the bundles and retreating back to Mexico. After searching the area, agents discovered 10 bundles with a total weight of 792 pounds.

In the second seizure, agents attempted to pull a vehicle over but the smugglers abandoned it and fled to Mexico. In total, 1,396 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $1.1 million was confiscated.   

The narcotics were transported to the Rio Grande City Station for processing.
