EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector intercepted two separate marijuana smuggling attempts and seized multiple vehicles.
Friday morning, Weslaco agents patrolling along the Rio Grande detected an illegal entry near Donna, Texas. Agents followed the footprints through a harvest field, which led to two abandoned vehicles, parked along the road. Inside the vehicles, agents discovered nine bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 330 pounds, worth an estimated $264K. The Border Patrol seized the narcotics and the abandoned vehicles.
The following day, Rio Grande City agents observed four subjects illegally enter the United States carrying bundles of marijuana. As agents responded, the smugglers abandoned the narcotics and returned to Mexico. An immediate search of the area resulted in the discovery of four bundles weighing nearly 235 pounds, worth an estimated $188K.
Border Patrol turned over the marijuana to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
