EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector stopped two separate alien smuggling attempts resulting in the arrest of 15 illegal aliens.
On Friday, McAllen agents working near Mission, Texas, responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle leaving the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed. As mobile units responded, the driver of the vehicle returned to the river and all of the occupants fled on foot. Agents searched the area, arresting the driver and 11 illegal aliens.
On Sunday, Falfurrias agents working at the checkpoint referred a tractor-trailer for secondary inspection. During the investigation, agents located four illegal aliens attempting to conceal themselves inside the cabin of the tractor. Agents arrested the driver and escorted all subjects into the checkpoint for processing.
Border Patrol referred both cases to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
