EDINBURG, Texas – Over this weekend, Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents interrupted five smuggling attempts that resulted in the seizure of nearly 2,500 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $2,000,000.
Yesterday, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station observed a white sport utility vehicle (SUV) traveling at a high rate of speed, heading towards U.S. Highway 83. Responding agents encountered the SUV abandoned. Agents seized six bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 460 lbs.
Four other seizures occurred this weekend in the cities of Roma, Escobares, La Grulla and Salineno yielding a combined weight of more than 2,000 lbs.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
