KINGSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Kingsville checkpoint rescued two people Thursday whose lives were in danger due to the reckless tactics of human smugglers.
Agents assigned to the Sarita Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77 conducted an immigration inspection on the driver of a moving truck. The truck was referred for a secondary inspection after a K9 alerted to the cargo area of the vehicle. During the inspection, agents encountered two illegal immigrants locked inside the cargo area of the truck with no means of escape.
The driver, a United States citizen, was arrested and referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office. The rescued immigrants, Mexican nationals, will be processed accordingly.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector encourages citizens to report suspicious activity by calling the sector’s toll-free telephone number at 800-863-9382.
