EDINBURG, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley rescued 39 illegal immigrants in 24 hours and found a deceased male in the harsh ranch lands.
The largest rescue occurred in La Grulla, Texas when agents responded to a 911 call from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and came across 19 immigrants had been abandoned by their smuggler in the blistering heat. Agents provided them with water and rendered first aid.
Later that day, agents working in the Brooks County area were tracking a group of illegal immigrants when they came upon a deceased body. Justice of the Peace Noralia Morales responded to the location and pronounced the subject deceased. Brooks County Sheriff’s Department responded and the body was taken to the Laredo Medical Examiner’s Office.
Immigrants are urged not to put their safety at risk by illegally entering the United States or circumventing a checkpoint.
