RGV Agents Encounter Vehicle Roll Over with Injured Migrants

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector Border Patrol agents encountered four migrant smuggling attempts in collaboration with local law enforcement. In one incident a vehicle was discovered down an embankment with multiple injured migrants.

On Jan. 28, RGV agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a Chevrolet Silverado near La Gloria. The vehicle failed to yield and led agents on a vehicle pursuit. A CBP Air and Marine Operations helicopter responded to assist. The vehicle stopped momentarily in a neighborhood in Mission, where nine subjects exited the vehicle. With the help of the pilot, agents were able to apprehend nine migrants who were all unlawfully present in the United States. The vehicle and driver were not located.

On the evening of Jan. 29, Rio Grande City Border Patrol (RGC) agents encountered a Lincoln Navigator rolled over on an embankment near the Rio Grande. Agents encountered 19 people in need of medical care. Agents along with local EMT personal were immediately dispatched to the area. A total of seven migrants were transported to local medical facilities for additional care. One migrant’s injuries required him to be airlifted to the hospital.

The following night, RGC agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a Chevrolet Silverado near Garciasville. The vehicle failed to yield and led agents on a vehicle pursuit until it came to a stop near the Los Ebanos Port Of Entry. The driver, a United States Citizen, and three Mexican nationals were apprehended in the area with the assistance of Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers. Troopers took custody of the driver to face state charges.

On Jan. 31, RGV agents conducted a vehicle stop on a Chevrolet Silverado near San Manuel. During the vehicle stop, a passenger exited the vehicle and fled into the nearby brush, as agents attempted to apprehend the passenger, the driver departed the area. Nearby DPS troopers pursued the vehicle for a short distance before the driver came to a stop. Troopers seized the vehicle and arrested the female driver. Agents arrested the passenger of the vehicle a short time later, who was determined to be illegally present in the United States.
