BROWNSVILLE, Texas – In an attempt to evade Border Patrol agents, a drug smuggler recklessly drove his vehicle into the Rio Grande in Brownsville, Texas on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when Fort Brown agents observed the Ford pickup being floated across the river. After crossing, the driver of the pickup attempted to flee, plunging into the river. Multiple subjects on the Mexican side began to retrieve bundles of marijuana from the bed of the pickup.
A highly trained dive team from the Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) unit later removed the vehicle from the river and discovered 7 bundles inside the cab of the truck. No arrests were made.
