A field test of the substance was inconclusive so samples were subsequently sent to CBP’s Laboratories and Scientific Services for analysis.

On March 13, 2017, the CBP lab identified the substance as anabolic steroids, which is a synthetic drug known for its performance enhancing capabilities.

"Our CBP Officers tirelessly work to intercept and seize illegal contraband," stated Andrew Douglas, Port Director. "I am proud of their tremendous effort and the positive results that are achieved by their vigilance and determination."

Anabolic steroids are a Schedule III controlled substances under federal regulations.

The substances were immediately seized by CBP Officers.
