Border Patrol Rescues Suspect from the Rio Grande

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Border Patrol Riverine agents rescued a Mexican national who nearly drowned in the Rio Grande, Tuesday.

Brownsville Border Patrol agents were pursuing a group of suspected smugglers when the group jumped into the river to avoid capture.

Border Patrol Riverine and mobile units responded to the area and watched the group swim to Mexico but one person who was struggling to stay afloat began shouting for assistance.  A Border Patrol boat responded and rescued the 18 year-old man.

Border Patrol mobile and K9 units, who began an extensive search of the area, discovered three bundles of marijuana weighing 71 pounds and worth over $50,000.

The Mexican national underwent medical evaluation, and when cleared medically, was arrested.  The case remains under investigation.
