Border Patrol, FURA Apprehend 2 Cuban Aliens Landing in Cabo Rojo

AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico – U.S. Border Patrol, and Operation Stonegarden partner the Puerto Rico Police Department (PRPD) Forces for Rapid Action (FURA) apprehended Wednesday 2 Cuban migrants that entered illegally into the island via the southwestern coast.

“Our collaborative work with FURA has continued to produce excellent results in detecting and interdicting smuggling attempts,” stated Ramiro Cerrillo, Ramey Sector Chief Patrol Agent in Aguadilla.

Near noon on Apr. 25, FURA agents encountered a man and a woman walking by State Road 303 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, later contacting Border Patrol Agents. Both claimed to be Cuban nationals.

Both aliens indicated that they had arrived in a makeshift vessel proximately at 6:30 AM. FURA agents found the abandoned vessel by the Pitahaya sector of the Cabo Rojo coast.

Border Patrol Agents assumed custody of the 2 aliens and transported them to the Ramey station for immigration processing and removal.

On Jan. 2017, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security rescinded the special parole policy for arriving Cuban nationals in US soil commonly known as the “wet-foot/dry-foot” policy.

The Operation Stonegarden Grant Program (OPSG) is designed to enhance cooperation and coordination from the U.S. Border Patrol with local, tribal, territorial, state and federal law enforcement agencies in a joint mission to secure the border.
