EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdicted two narcotic smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of more than 600 pounds of marijuana.

On Jan. 24, Brownsville Border Patrol Station agents received information of a Chevrolet Tahoe possibly loaded with narcotics. Agents located a vehicle matching the description at a retail store parking lot. As agents approached, the single occupant fled from the driver’s seat. Agents discovered several bundles of marijuana in the Tahoe. The vehicle and marijuana that weighed over 360 pounds and valued at $290,000 was seized. The driver was not located.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 25, agents with the RGV Horse Patrol Unit and Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station responded to suspicious activity near Garciasville. As agents responded to the area, they observed several subjects carrying bundles. The individuals immediately dropped the bundles and fled into the brush. Agents apprehended three suspected drug smugglers in the surrounding area and seized five bundles of marijuana weighing more than 240 pounds worth $195,000.

Border Patrol is processing the subjects accordingly.
