HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico after locating 11 pounds (5.02 kg) of cocaine within the SUV he was driving.

“We take pride in discovering narcotics being smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Whether it’s a pound or a ton of narcotics that our officers seize, these are drugs that won’t make their way into our communities.”

On Sep. 5, 2019, a CBP officer at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge encountered a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen arriving from Mexico driving a red 2003 Ford Expedition. After presenting his Mexican border-crossing card, the officer referred the traveler and the SUV for further inspection. Officers conducting the secondary examination utilized a non-intrusive imaging (NII) technology system, which assisted them in discovering five packages of alleged cocaine that were concealed within the Ford Expedition.

CBP OFO seized the SUV, the narcotics, valued at $86,000 and arrested the driver who was ultimately turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, who continue with the investigation.
