TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection is adding more days to its operation hours for the Global Enrollment Center at Arizona’s Port of San Luis II.
Effective July 8, the Global Enrollment Center will open temporarily every other Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., for eligible travelers to sign up for CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program. The addition of Saturdays will end Sept. 16, 2017. The office will remain open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are providing more opportunities for SENTRI (Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection) applicants to enroll in the Trusted Traveler Program by tacking on Saturdays,” said Port Director John Schwamm. “Together, we can help reduce processing times.”
CBP’s SENTRI program provides dedicated vehicle and pedestrian lanes and expedited processing at various ports of entry for pre-approved, low-risk travelers.
Interested travelers may apply for the SENTRI program by visiting the Trusted Traveler Program website. The application process takes approximately six to eight weeks and includes a $122.25 membership fee.
The program gives members access to the dedicated vehicle and pedestrian lanes for five years. Applicants must pass a background check, submit to being fingerprinted, and an in-person interview with a CBP officer.
Travelers may consult the CBP website to monitor border wait times. Information is updated hourly and is useful in planning trips and identifying the best times to cross.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
