CBP Field Operations Officers Seize $229K worth of Cocaine at Anzalduas International Bridge

ANZALDUAS, Texas—Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Anzalduas International Bridge arrested a man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico after detecting $229,000 worth of alleged cocaine within the SUV he was driving.

“Our officers accomplished this excellent interception of hard narcotics by working as a team and utilizing their outstanding inspectional skills,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Keeping dangerous drugs from crossing our borders is one of our top priorities at CBP Field Operations.”

On January 21, a 31-year-old male U.S. citizen, who resides in Mexico arrived at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge in a white 2003 Ford Explorer SUV and was referred for further inspection by a CBP officer. A thorough secondary examination, which included the assistance of a (canine team) resulted in officers discovering 11 packages weighing 29.67 pounds (13.46 kg) of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle.

CBP OFO seized the cocaine, the vehicle and arrested the driver ultimately turning him over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further investigation.
