CBP Officers Thwart Dallas Woman’s $1 Million Methamphetamine Smuggling Attempt at Hidalgo International Bridge

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge kept a 21-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen from Dallas, Texas from smuggling $1,030,00 worth of alleged methamphetamine into the United States.

“Our frontline officers maintain a steadfast commitment towards the CBP mission in keeping dangerous drugs from entering into our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “Our goal is to prevent those illegal activities which produce financial gains for those involved in illicit acts.”

CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Nov. 15, 2020 encountered the Dallas native driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra and referred her for a more thorough examination. A CBP (canine team) assisting with the inspection helped the officers discover 15 packages weighing 51.5 pounds (23.36 kg) that were concealed within the vehicle.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the woman who was subsequently turned over to the custody of agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) as they continue with the investigation.
