Nogales Police Officers Find Ammo Cache in Stolen Vehicle

TUCSON, Ariz. – A Nogales Police Department officer working in support of Operation Stonegarden arrested a U.S. citizen and seized a stolen Nissan Versa containing thousands of rounds of rifle ammunition Thursday evening.

Border Patrol agents contacted the Nogales Police to report a suspicious vehicle seen driving around a business complex. When an officer participating in Operation Stonegarden arrived to investigate, he discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen in New Mexico.

Officers arrested the driver and seized the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the Nissan, officers found 6,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Operation Stonegarden is a Department of Homeland Security program that grants funds to other law enforcement agencies to enhance and strengthen border security throughout the United States.
