TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers recently arrested two Nogales, Arizona residents for separate attempts to smuggle a combined 52 pounds methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing Tuesday referred a 26-year-old man for further inspection of his Toyota sedan and found 36 pounds of meth, worth almost $109,000, hidden in a speaker box.
A day earlier at the same crossing, officers referred a 27-year-old woman for a search of her Honda SUV and found 16 pounds of meth, worth $48,000, with the assistance of a narcotics-detection canine.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicles, and turned the subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
