What is NEXUS?
The NEXUS program allows pre-screened travelers expedited processing by United States and Canadian officials at dedicated processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry, at NEXUS kiosks when entering Canada by air, and at Global Entry kiosks when entering the United States by air, and at marine reporting locations.  Approved applicants are issued a photo-identification, proximity Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card.  Participants use the three modes of passage where they will either present their NEXUS card, have their iris scanned at a NEXUS kiosk, or scan their passport at a Global Entry kiosk and make a declaration.

How Does the NEXUS Program Work?
At airports, program participants proceed to NEXUS or Global Entry (GE) kiosks.  At NEXUS kiosks participants will use their iris scan for membership verification.  At GE kiosks participants will present their machine-readable passport or permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration.  The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.

Additional Benefits of Global Entry included with NEXUS
Your time is valuable.  As a pre-screened NEXUS member, you have the added benefit of Global Entry benefits. With NEXUS, you will receive expedited entrance into both Canada and the US, and:

  • Eligibility to apply for expedited entry benefits in other countries
  • Available at major airports
  • Reduced wait times
  • Participation in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) PreCheck Program and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority’s (CATSA) expedited security screening program.

So what are you waiting for? Apply today at GOES. Click on CBP NEXUS Trusted Traveler to learn more about NEXUS, or www.CBP.gov for more information.
