Multi-agency traffic stop leads to the rescue of twenty immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley

SAN MANUEL, Texas – Weslaco Station Border Patrol agents assisted the Hidalgo County Sherriff’s Office (HCSO) and rescued twenty trappedIllegal immigrants inside of a semi-trailer immigrants during a vehicle stop on Tuesday.

The rescue occurred when a United States citizen, driving a commercial moving truck, was pulled over by HCSO deputies near San Manuel, Texas.  As the deputies made contact with the driver, a Border Patrol unit was requested to assist. Agents arrived and observed suspicious indicators on the trailer which led to the discovery of twenty immigrants trapped in the locked cargo. The driver and immigrants were taken into custody while the vehicle was seized by HCSO.

Immigrants are urged not to put their safety at risk by illegally entering the United States or circumventing a checkpoint. The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and to help save lives by reporting suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
