SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized methamphetamine at the Highway 86 checkpoint on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m., when a man driving a green 2014 Kia Soul approached the checkpoint for inspection. A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle. Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.
A search of the vehicle revealed 17 packages hidden inside the vehicle’s rear passenger seat. The substance inside the packages tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.
The total weight of the methamphetamine was 37.62 pounds with an estimated street value of $71,480.
The man, a 25-year-old United States citizen, the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
