BLAINE, Wash. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations at the Peace Arch Port of Entry, detained a 20-year-old Lynnwood man Saturday evening when a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check showed a protection order prohibiting him from being in the presence of his passenger.

The man, just two days shy of his 21st birthday, attempted to cross into the United States at the Peace Arch when the NCIC match was revealed. The protection order was served on him in February of 2014 and was confirmed as still valid.

“Protection orders are taken very seriously,” said Area Port Director Kenneth Williams. “As part of our numerous law enforcement duties, we always verify the authenticity of protection orders and ensure the safety of the protected individual.”

The Blaine Police Department was contacted and arrested the man for violation of the NCIC protection order. Bail was set at $5,000.

NCIC is a centralized automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses. Based on information from NCIC, CBP officers on the U.S./Canadian border have made previous arrests of individuals wanted for homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion.
