Lost Female Migrant Rescued Over the Weekend Near Yuma

Release Date

YUMA, Arizona. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued an undocumented individual in the Imperial Sand Dunes, Saturday morning.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., Calexico Border Patrol agents assisted Yuma station in locating an individual who was reported lost and need of assistance. At approximately 9:20 a.m., agents responded to the last known location and discovered five individuals in the area. The group stated that they left a female traveling with them behind because she could not keep up.

As agents back tracked the group’s route of travel, they observed a vehicle pick up a female. Agents made contact with the vehicle.  Through an interview of its occupants, it was determined that the female was the individual requesting assistance, and the driver was a concerned citizen assisting the female.

After a wellness check of the individuals, it was determined no medical assistance was needed, and it was verified that the individuals did not possess the required documents to be legally present in the United States. All six individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for additional medical evaluation and to be processed accordingly.

Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 165 individuals who were lost, in distress, or abandoned by smugglers.
