Laredo Sector Border Patrol immobilized a human smuggling attempt at I-35 checkpoint

LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents immobilized a human smuggling attempt that resulted in the apprehension of several individuals at the I-35 Border Patrol checkpoint.

On Feb. 22, Border Patrol agents encountered a tractor-trailer at the primary inspection lane when a Service canine alerted to the tractor. Border Patrol agents referred the driver to secondary, where they conducted further inspection of the vehicle. Border Patrol agents discovered nine individuals hiding in the sleeper area of the tractor-trailer.

After record checks were conducted it revealed the individuals were in the country illegally from Mexico. The driver along with a passenger and undocumented individuals were taken into custody for processing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol while remaining anonymous by calling 1-800-343-1994.
