Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize Over $2.2 Million Dollars in Narcotics

LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents interdicted two narcotic smuggling attempts in Laredo, Texas resulting in the seizure of over $2.2 million dollars in narcotics.

The first event took place on April 2, 2018, when Border Patrol agents seized 44.64 pounds of methamphetamine and 4.64 pounds of heroin at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35, north of Laredo, Texas. Agents encountered a green Mercury Grand Marquis at the primary inspection lane and referred the vehicle to secondary for further inspection. A further search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 12 bottles concealed within the seats containing methamphetamine and an envelope containing heroin. The methamphetamine was estimated to have a value of $1,071,446.40.00 and the heroin was valued at $148,720.00. The driver, a United States Citizen, was arrested. The driver and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.

The second event occurred on April 2, 2018, when Border Patrol agents seized 1,203.4 pounds of marijuana at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35, north of Laredo, Texas. Agents encountered a tractor-tractor at the primary inspection lane and referred the driver to secondary for further inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to the presence of concealed humans and/or narcotics. A further search of the trailer resulted in the seizure of 32 bundles of marijuana. The marijuana was estimated to have a value of $984,472.67. The driver, a United States Citizen, was arrested. The driver and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.
