Laredo North Border Patrol Agents Rescue Undocumented Alien

Release Date
Mon, 12/03/2012

Laredo, Texas - Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo North Station rescued an undocumented female alien lost on isolated ranchland yesterday morning.

On December 2, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Laredo North agents assigned to roving patrol duties were notified by Sector Communications radio dispatcher that a 911 emergency call via cell phone came in from an unknown female in distress. The female stated that she was lost, could no longer walk, and needed help. Laredo North agents along with members of the Border Patrol Search and Rescue team (BORSTAR) and CBP Office of Air and Marine (OAM) helicopter departed to the area and began an extensive search. The agents located the female about 1.5 miles west of mile marker 15 who was in need of medical attention. BORSTAR and Laredo North agents evaluated and treated the female on the scene for a broken ankle.

After the female was evaluated and treated by our agents she was transported to Doctor's Hospital where she was later released.

Many illegal aliens smuggled into the United States are unaware of the extreme danger they face in regard to harsh environmental conditions. Additionally, they do not realize that they must often walk for several days with very little, if any, food and water.

"This rescue effort is a good example of CBP's integrated approach. It demonstrates how Office of Air and Marine assets in the air with Border Patrol agents on the ground work to rescue individuals in distress," said Acting Chief Patrol Agent John C. Esquivel.
