Laredo Border Patrol Continues Rescues Efforts along the Border

Release Date:
July 17, 2017

This week Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector rescued 16 illegal aliens in five separate events.  The first event occurred on July 8, 2017, after Border Patrol agents rescued two illegal aliens in a ranch northwest of Laredo, Texas.  The two subjects had been abandoned by a smuggler and resorted to calling for assistance after they became lost in the brush after walking in the sweltering heat during the middle of the day.  The two illegal aliens were treated for heat exhaustion and determined to be from the country of Mexico.

The second event occurred on July 9, 2017, after Border Patrol agents rescued one illegal alien in a ranch northwest of Laredo, Texas.  The subject had been abandoned by a smuggler and resorted to calling for assistance after he became lost in the brush after walking in the sweltering heat during the middle of the day.  The illegal alien was found in good health and determined to be from the country of Mexico.

The third event occurred later that afternoon, after Border Patrol agents rescued one illegal alien in a ranch northwest of Laredo, Texas.  The subject had been abandoned by a smuggler and resorted to calling for assistance after he became lost in the brush after walking in the sweltering heat during the middle of the day.  The illegal alien was found to be in good health and determined to be from the country of Mexico.

The fourth event occurred on July 13, 2017, after Border Patrol agents rescued two illegal aliens in a ranch near Hebbronville, Texas.  The subjects had been abandoned by a smuggler and resorted to calling for assistance after they became lost in the brush after walking in the sweltering heat.  The illegal aliens were found to be in good health and were determined to be from the country of El Salvador.

The fifth event occurred on July 14, 2017, at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35 when Border Patrol agents encountered a tractor-trailer at the primary lane.  The driver was questioned regarding his immigration status and consented to further inspection.  A non-intrusive inspection of the tractor-trailer resulted in the rescue of 10 illegal aliens inside the refrigerator locked trailer.  The 10 illegal aliens were determined to be from the country of Mexico.  The driver, from the country of Cuba, was arrested.

“These criminal organizations view these individuals as mere commodities without regard for their safety.  The blatant disregard for human life will not be tolerated. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to disrupt and dismantle these organizations and prosecute those responsible,” said Laredo Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta.

The Laredo Sector Border Patrol will continue to warn against the dangers of people crossing illegally into the United States through dangerous environmental conditions.  Our Border Safety Initiative (BSI) is a humanitarian, bi-national strategy designed to reduce illegal alien deaths, educate and inform potential illegal aliens of the dangers and hazards of crossing the border illegally, and to respond to those who are in life-threatening situations.
