YUMA, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Station All-Terrain Vehicle Unit arrested a Mexican national with multiple felony convictions, including Rape with a Deadly Weapon, after he made an illegal entry into the United States on Saturday.

At approximately 8:25 p.m. on Friday, agents working on the ATV Unit began tracking a single individual through rough terrain near Andrade, California after he made an unlawful entry into the United States. Agents encountered and arrested the individual who was dressed in all black as he attempted to conceal himself by hiding behind a rock.

During processing, agents identified the individual as Miguel Martinez-Hernandez, a 62-year-old Mexican national from the State of Michoacan. Record checks revealed a felony conviction for Rape with a Deadly Weapon in Vacaville, California in 1983. Additional record checks revealed felony convictions for Possession of Controlled Substance for Sale, Inflicting Corporal Injury on Spouse/Cohabitant, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Assault with a Firearm on Person with Great Bodily Injury, and Failure to Annually Register as a Sex Offender. Martinez was last deported through the San Ysidro, California Port of Entry on August 31, 2018.

Martinez stated through additional interviews that he intended to travel to Los Angeles to work and reside.

Martinez will be processed for re-entry after deportation as an aggravated felon.
