DEL RIO, Texas – The advent of the information age has sparked the creation of new ways of communicating, including the development of social media technology.  Customs and Border Protection has taken advantage of the opportunity to use social media to share information directly with the public via Twitter, using our Twitter handle @CBP South Texas”.

CBP created this account in July of 2011, connecting the Del Rio, Laredo, and Rio Grande Valley areas of operation to the local public and the nation.  This account encompasses all CBP components, to include the offices of Air and Marine, U. S. Border Patrol, and Field Operations.

“Social media is a powerful and effective tool to directly engage the public and instantly share information to increase awareness of our mission and the role we play within our communities,” said Del Rio Sector, Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak.

@CBP South Texas is one of the few corridors that tweets bilingually information to the community such as significant apprehensions, searches, rescues, wanted felons, public events, trade, travel information, closures and more.  The most recent examples are Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize 1330 lbs of Marijuana, Jan 23, 2017, Del Rio Sector Agents Fight House Fire in Big Wells, TX, Jan 23, 2017, and Del Rio agents help rescue tractor-trailer driver in a rollover Jan 19, 2017.

CBP continues adapting to the ever-evolving world of technology to keep pace with our increasingly connected culture.  Today, with more options available to stay informed, social media has become an effective way to connect news and people directly.

The Del Rio Sector Border Patrol invites you to stay informed by following our twitter account @CBP South Texas.
