SALTON CITY, CALIF.—On Tuesday El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station apprehended a suspected narcotic smuggler and seized over $438,000 worth of illegal narcotics.
Border Patrol agents at approximately 4 p.m. encountered a 26-year-old female driving a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria as she approached the Highway 86 checkpoint located between Westmorland and Salton City. A Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vehicle and referred the driver to secondary for further inspection. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, agents discovered five packages of cocaine concealed within the vehicle's transmission. The cocaine had a combined weight of approximately 13 pounds with an estimated value of over $438,000.
The woman, a citizen of Mexico and Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident card holder, was arrested. The suspect, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
