El Centro Sector Border Patrol Hosts 3rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

Imperial, Calif. -On Saturday the El Centro Sector Border Patrol hosted its 3rd Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Torch Run. The relay run began and ended on the corner of West Aten and Clark Road. The United States Border Patrol along with other law enforcement agencies ran in the event.

Eighteen teams participated in the 28-mile-long relay race with ten runners per team running an average of 2.75 miles per leg. Teams were represented by the U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Office of Field Operations, El Centro Police Department, Centinela State Prison and others. Each team carried a baton in memory of a fallen law enforcement officer chosen by the team. Teams represented fallen Border Patrol agents, California Highway officers, Deputy Probation officers and local Police officers.

The winner of the Law Enforcement Torch Run was U.S. Border Patrol's Yuma Sector BORSTAR team followed by U.S. Border Patrol's San Diego Sector BORTAC team. Third place was U.S. Border Patrol's Calexico Coyotes.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
