CALEXICO, CALIF.—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station apprehended a member of the "9th Street Gang" yesterday evening during patrol operations.
At approximately 9 p.m., El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a 25-year-old Mexican national who crossed into the United States illegally 3.5 miles east of the Calexico West Port of Entry. Border Patrol agents later determined that the subject is an active member of the "9th Street Gang" out of Santa Barbara, Calif. This gang is affiliated with the "Surenos" criminal organization. Upon further investigation, agents discovered the man had an extensive criminal history associated with gang activity.
The gang member is in Border Patrol custody and will be removed from the United States.
