El Centro Sector Border Patrol Apprehends Sex Offender

CALEXICO, Calif. – Sunday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro station apprehended a convicted sex offender near Mount Signal Road.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m., when agents encountered a 32-year-old male, citizen of Mexico attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States.  Through interview and further inspection, agents identified the man as Alejandro Chavez Aguilera, a convicted sex offender, guilty of criminal sexual conduct 4th degree in Grand Haven, Michigan.  Chavez has multiple convictions for illegal entry after being previously removed.

The convicted sex offender is being held at the Imperial County Jail pending federal prosecution.
