SALTON CITY, Calif. – Monday, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station apprehend a convicted sex offender at the Highway 86 checkpoint suspected of smuggling three undocumented aliens.

At approximately 6 p.m., a gray Ford Sedan driven by a 44-year-old man approached the checkpoint with three male passengers.  Agents referred the driver to a secondary inspection area for a more thorough examination.  During questioning it was discovered that the three passengers were citizens of Mexico illegally present in the United States.

Border Patrol agents conducted a criminal records check and revealed that the driver, Joseph Anthony Dominguez, a United States citizen, is a register sex offender with an extensive criminal history including Negligent Homicide and Second Degree Burglary.

Dominguez was convicted of oral copulation with a person under 18 years of age and served three years in prison.

Dominguez was arrested and transported to the Imperial County Jail.

The undocumented aliens were transported to the Border Patrol station for processing.
