Release Date:
July 9, 2013

DEL RIO, TEXAS—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a convicted sex offender Monday afternoon.

Agents patrolling near Vista Bonita Street, in Eagle Pass, encountered Raymundo Martinez-Reza, 33, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Martinez-Reza had been previously deported from the United States and was a convicted sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Martinez-Reza had a 2007 conviction out of Dallas County for aggravated sexual assault on a child, a first degree felony.

Martinez-Reza will be charged with illegal entry - 8 USC 1325 - and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.

So far, during fiscal year 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended a total of 15 convicted sex offenders. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
