Previously deported felons apprehended in separate events.

Eagle Pass, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass and Eagle Pass South stations arrested two convicted sex offenders Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

“Agents working along our nation’s borders continue to make significant criminal apprehensions,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “The arrest of these convicted sex offenders shows that dangerous criminal elements are determined to attempt illegal entry.”

On June 24, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a Mexican national. Records checks conducted during processing revealed that he has criminal history in the United States, including a conviction in 2004 for aggravated criminal sex abuse. He was previously deported to Mexico in April 2012.

A few hours later, early in the morning of June 25, Border Patrol agents from the neighboring Eagle Pass South Station arrested a Honduran national. Records checks indicated that he was arrested for sexual assault in 2010, and convicted of that crime and subsequently deported in 2011.

As convicted felons, both men face a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

All individuals apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks utilizing multiple databases including the use of biometrics to ensure those with criminal history are positively identified regardless of their immigration status.
