Driver Caught at Border with Four Tons of Pot

NOGALES, Ariz. — A Mexican man was arrested Wednesday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds of marijuana into the United States.More than four tons of marijuana are removed from a co-mingled shipment of bell peppers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the commercial facility referred a 30-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for additional inspection of a tractor-trailer he was driving. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers removed and seized 298 bales of marijuana worth more than $4 million.

The drugs and truck were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
