YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma Sector agents assigned to the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint arrested a United States citizen and recovered a stolen vehicle Tuesday.

Around 8 p.m., a Honda SUV approached Wellton Station agents in the primary inspection lane. The driver was referred to the secondary inspection area for additional questioning. Agents discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Diego.

The 41-year-old male United States citizen driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Interior checkpoints, like the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint within the Yuma Sector area of responsibility, are intended to thwart border security threats attempting to egress into the interior of the United States.
