DEL RIO, TEXAS—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio station apprehended a convicted sex offender Tuesday morning.
Agents patrolling a local ranch near the Buena Vista area encountered Jose Luis Dones-Berreles, 46, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Berreles had been previously deported from the United States and was a registered sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Berreles has a 2009 conviction out of Harris County in Texas for indecency with a child and served two years on that charge.
An immigration check revealed Dones, a Mexican national, had been previously deported in 2009. Dones will be processed for removal from the United States and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
For fiscal year 2013, the Del Rio Sector has apprehended a total of seven convicted sex offenders.
